Yeisk or Anapa in 2026: Which Resort for Which Trip

An honest, no-bashing comparison: where children can wade in safely, where lodging and food cost less, where mud therapy actually works, and where the resort programme is bigger. Choose by task, not by the word «sea».

Yeisk and Anapa are the two most-discussed family resorts of southern Russia. They are different, and the question is not «which is better» but «which fits your trip». Same family in different years can land in either. This piece is not a winner-declaration but a fair decision map. We work in Yeisk and regularly redirect guests to Anapa when we see they want what Anapa offers. We will say so directly.

Core differences in one paragraph

Anapa is the Black Sea, a longer mass-bathing season (late May to early October), large resort infrastructure, water parks, a dolphinarium, nightlife, year-round direct rail. Yeisk is the Gulf of Taganrog of the Sea of Azov, a slightly shorter but warmer bathing season, a balneological resort with therapeutic mud, a noticeably calmer format, fewer crowds, lower prices and one of the strongest food scenes on the southern coast for a town its size. Yeisk also gets a direct seasonal train from Moscow in summer. Now — by task.

Families with small children

Yeisk wins here on physical parameters, not marketing. The Gulf of Taganrog is one of the shallowest sea basins in the country: depth at 50 metres from shore is 1–2 metres. The bottom is gradual, no drops, no rocks. Salinity around 11–12 ppt — half of the Black Sea — meaning the water barely stings the eyes, which matters for kids under 6–7. The water warms early: late May usually +21–22 °C, June +24, July +27. Anapa has a long bathing season too, but the bottom drops faster, waves are higher, and northern winds early in the season can mean 2–3 °C lower. Anapa compensates with paddling pools and beach service; Yeisk is compensated by the shoreline itself.

An additional factor — load. In Anapa peak-season beaches are dense, popular sections require sun-loungers booked by 8 a.m. In Yeisk even in August the main beaches have free space throughout the day.

Health and treatment

Different league. Yeisk has been a recognised spa town since 1921, specifically balneological. Lake Khanskoye supplies sulphide silt mud (same category as Saky in Crimea), and the Yeisk Spit yields iodine-bromine mineral springs. Active-substance concentration runs above the Azov average, and sessions are shorter than at competing resorts: 15–20 minutes instead of 30. We covered the details in our Yeisk mud-therapy guide. Anapa has balneology too, but it is not the centre of gravity — Anapa's centre is paediatric health resorts and beach holidays, not adult mud therapy.

If the trip is about post-injury recovery, joints, skin or gynaecology, Yeisk is more efficient per day. If it's general kid-friendly seaside health, both work.

Budget

On average across 2026, Yeisk is roughly a quarter to a third cheaper than Anapa for equivalent lodging and noticeably cheaper for food. The difference is in demand, not quality: Anapa is a mass resort under heavy price pressure, Yeisk is a niche destination without coach-tour flow. Concrete numbers: a comparable 4-star seafront room in peak season costs 12–18 000 ₽ in Anapa and 7–11 000 ₽ in Yeisk. Dinner for two at a city-grade restaurant — 3–4 000 ₽ versus 5–7 000 ₽. Fresh fish and seafood at Yeisk market cost about the same as at Anapa wholesalers, but second-hand at Anapa restaurants — visibly more.

Food and city atmosphere

Yeisk surprises first-timers. For a town of 80 000 the restaurant scene is unexpectedly alive and the produce market is strong. Local fishing co-ops land their catch by morning straight to the market — pike-perch, Black Sea roach, gobies, rapana. Several city kitchens are run by chefs with southern fine-dining experience, doing seasonal menus on local produce. Taman and Kuban wineries are 2–3 hours by car, and most accept visitors.

Anapa works differently: wide spectrum from premium to children's cafes, full resort infrastructure with shows, tours, water parks. If the trip is the standard «sea–water park–dolphinarium–dinner–evening animation» template — Anapa is your answer. If you want it quieter and product-driven — Yeisk.

Watersports and active travel

Anapa carries more ready-made services: surf stations, SUP rentals, dive clubs, boat trips. Yeisk is one of the strongest sailing and kiting hubs in southern Russia: a yacht club with regular regattas and a children's sailing school operate inside the city on the Gulf of Taganrog, where steady wind and gradual shallows let beginners stand on the board on day one. For more open water, Dolzhanskaya Spit lies 45 minutes by car (open water on both sides, surf and kite stations, camping). For active watersports — and especially for a kids' sailing programme with reliable conditions — Yeisk often turns out to offer more, not less, than Anapa.

What we say at the front desk

If you have small children, or you are coming for the mud, or you simply want quiet — us. If your priority is a big resort programme with water parks and shows — Anapa, and don't try to get it from us because we are a different format. When format and task match, the holiday works. When they don't, no star rating saves it.
